The WINE CLUB

Cape Brandy 20 Year Old

This is a story about friendship, time and a spirit that echoes through decades. From Bottelary’s rich earth, these old vine Colombard grapes were picked when the millennium was still new.

What we sacrifice in yield, the brandy gains in depth and character. Double distilled by hand in Wellington from a pure copper pot still and patiently laid away in barrel for twenty years, this brandy was crafted by the previous generation to be enjoyed in the next.

Cape Brandy

20 Year Old

Alcohol 38%

Tasting Notes

A 100 % Pure, uncoloured and unflavoured brandy made in the Cognac style. The brandy is made from 100% Colombard, picked early to preserve flavours, double distilled in the Cognac technique which maximises flavour extraction. Thereafter the spirit is matured in old small oak casks from Limousin, Allier, Nevers, Eastern Europe and the USA. After the years of maturation, the spirit gets its golden colour and the characteristic vanilla and butterscotch flavours from the oak. Then water is added to reduce the strength to 38 %, and thereafter the brandy is bottled by hand.

100% Colombard

Limiteless. After dinner, neat, with coffee and dark chocolate

Hugely complex, intense. Layers of many different fruits are evident, dried peaches and apricots, citrus, pineapple and almond are among those readily discernable. Very smooth, full bodied, confirming all the notes picked up on the nose. Classic dry finish, typical of the great Cognacs
